The Heisman Trophy finalists were announced on Monday night, with LSU's Jayden Daniels, Oregon's Bo Nix, Washington's Michael Penix Jr., and Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. all making the cut. The Heisman has been awarded to the nation's most outstanding college football player since 1935, with the winner set to be announced in New York on Saturday. The top four vote-getters, determined by over 870 voters, including media members and former Heisman winners, are selected as finalists.
This year's finalists include Nix and Penix, marking the first time the Pac-12 has had two Heisman finalists since 2010. The Pac-12 is in its final season with its current membership before 10 schools depart, including Oregon and Washington to the Big Ten.
Daniels had an exceptional season for LSU, passing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns and running for 1,134 yards and 10 TDs. Harrison has 67 catches for 1,211 yards and 15 touchdowns, while Nix transferred to Oregon in 2022 and became one of the best players in the country. Penix, in his sixth college season, transferred to Washington in 2022 and has passed for 4,218 yards and 33 touchdowns.
The road to Manhattan for each finalist has been marked by impressive achievements and standout performances. Daniels is aiming to become the third LSU player to win the Heisman, following Joe Burrow in 2019. Harrison's consistency has been a standout feature for Ohio State, while Nix has led the Ducks to the Pac-12 title game. Penix's arrival at Washington has seen the Huskies secure 23 victories and a Pac-12 title, as well as their second College Football Playoff appearance.
The Heisman Trophy finalists represent a diverse group of athletes, each with their own unique journey and contributions to the game. As the college football season comes to a close, the anticipation for the announcement of the Heisman Trophy winner continues to grow.
