Louisiana Wildlife Fisheries Foundation Whooping Crane Art Show Contest
Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation to host Whooping Crane Art Expo in February. Adult artists and students invited to participate.
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation is excited to announce the upcoming Whooping Crane Art Expo taking place in February. This event is open to adult artists and students in East Baton Rouge Parish, and it centers around the incredible efforts of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to restore the whooping crane population in the state.
Having been on the brink of extinction, the department, along with its partners, has successfully rebuilt the population to around 80 whooping cranes. This remarkable achievement has garnered attention from national and international media outlets, and the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation, in collaboration with its partners, is eager to maintain the spotlight on this vital project through the art show and contest.
The art contest features two categories. The first is open to public school students, who can submit paintings of whooping cranes and their natural habitats through their art instructors. Teachers will guide the students and submit their entries to the foundation by January 6th.
The second category is for artists aged 18 and older. Participants in this category can showcase their talent through drawings, paintings, photographs, or wall hangings featuring whooping cranes.
Exciting prizes await the winners, including a cash prize and the unique opportunity to experience a crane release at the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area. The prizes are as follows:
First prize: $500, plus a crane release experience at White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area.
Second prize: $250, plus a crane release experience at White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area.
Third prize: $100, plus a crane release experience at White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area.
The winners will be announced at a private gala on February 17th.
