The 2023 Heisman Trophy ceremony is set to take place in New York on Saturday, Dec. 9, where the nation's top college football players will gather to find out who will receive the prestigious award. The event will be aired on ESPN and ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET.
The four finalists for the Heisman Trophy are LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, Washington quarterback Michael Penix, Jr., Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, and Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Daniels is the favorite to win the Heisman after an impressive season, throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns, and rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has already claimed several awards this year, including the Davey O'Brien Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Walter Camp Award, and the AP College Football Player of the Year.
According to quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan, Daniels' ability to throw catchable balls in stride and make plays with his feet has been a key factor in his success. Penix finished the season with 4,218 yards and 33 touchdowns, leading Washington to a Pac-12 title. He also won the Maxwell Award and was named the Pac-12 championship game MVP. Nix, who transferred to Oregon from Auburn in 2022, had a productive season, throwing for 4,145 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just three interceptions.
Harrison, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison, had an impressive season with 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns in 12 games. He also won the Biletnikoff Award and the Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year award.
With such strong competition, it's difficult to predict who will come out on top and win the Heisman Trophy. All four finalists have had outstanding performances this season, and it will be exciting to see who will be named the best college football player of 2023.
