'08 Celtics: Is this the best Boston Celtics team? Eddie House presents the argument
Eddie House makes a strong case for the 2007-08 Celtics team in the "Settle the Argument" series against the 1985-86 team.
A member of the 2007-08 NBA champion Boston Celtics has weighed in on our "Settle the Argument" series, where we've pitted six of the best Celtics teams in franchise history against each other in a tournament-style battle. The field includes the 1961-62, 1964-65, 1972-73, 1980-81, 1985-86, and 2007-08 squads.
The 1985-86 and 2007-08 teams are the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the tournament, respectively. On Wednesday's Celtics PostUp, Eddie House made the case for the '07-'08 team as the greatest in C's history.
House pointed out that the 2007-08 team had a deeper bench, a physical style of play, and the ability to match the speed and athleticism of the 1985-86 team. He highlighted key players like James Posey, Leon Powe, Glen Davis, P.J. Brown, and Sam Cassell as contributors who could take over a game at any given moment.
However, Celtics insider Chris Forsberg issued a rebuttal in favor of the 1985-86 group. He emphasized the talent of the '85-'86 team, including the "Big Three" with Robert Parish, Larry Bird, and Kevin McHale, as well as the dominance of the team's style and brand of basketball.
Both teams are NBA champions and boast a handful of Hall of Famers, making it difficult to determine which team would come out on top in a head-to-head matchup. Unfortunately, we'll never get to see the two all-time squads go head-to-head, so we'll have to settle for the simulation. After an interesting quarterfinal round in our "Settle the Argument" tournament, both teams will advance to the semifinals for a chance to battle for the title of best Celtics team ever. The semifinal results will be revealed on Thursday.
