Mayim Bialik out as 'Jeopardy!' host, leaving Ken Jennings solo
Mayim Bialik announces she won't be hosting Jeopardy! anymore. Ken Jennings to continue as sole host. Sony confirms in a statement.
Mayim Bialik, a former actor on The Big Bang Theory, recently announced on her Instagram account that she will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of the game show Jeopardy!. In her post, she expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the Jeopardy! family. Sony, the company behind the show, confirmed that there will be only one host for the upcoming season, with former Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings continuing in that role.
In their statement, Sony expressed genuine appreciation for Bialik's contributions to the show and mentioned that they hope to work with her on prime-time specials in the future. Bialik had received a prime-time Emmy nomination for her hosting this year and had previously shared hosting duties with Jennings. She also appeared as a solo host on the inaugural season of Celebrity Jeopardy!.
Bialik's hosting gig began in 2021, following the death of long-time host Alex Trebek in 2020. Her co-host at the time was the show's executive producer, Mike Richards, who was later replaced by Jennings after offensive comments he had made in the past came to light.
Jennings, who gained fame after a 74-episode winning streak in the early 2000s, had taken over hosting duties in 2021 and will continue in that role for the upcoming season. Bialik's departure comes after a period of tryouts for a new host, during which news anchors like ABC's Robin Roberts and NBC's Savannah Guthrie were considered.
Bialik, who rose to fame as a child star in the long-running NBC show Blossom, had stopped appearing on Jeopardy! earlier this year after showing support for the Hollywood writers' strike. Despite this, her hosting role on the show was well-received, and she was nominated for a prime-time Emmy for her work.
