Good evening, and welcome to the Monday, December 18 edition of Today in Slovakia. In today's news, the American steel giant U.S. Steel is set to be acquired by the Japanese company Nippon Steel Corporation, bringing hope for modernization and more ecological production at the Košice steel mills in Slovakia.
In other news, Bratislava's tram network is undergoing a significant transformation, with the Vajnory tram line nearing completion and plans for extensions and new lines. Efforts are also being made to modernize existing tram lines and enhance overall public transportation in the city, despite ongoing concerns and delays.
As Christmas approaches, the Slovak Folk Artistic Ensemble (SĽUK) has prepared the dance comedy Slovak Christmas for children and adults, inspired by Slovak folk theater and the Old Testament theme of the creation of the world. The show will be held tonight at 19:00 in the SĽUK Theatre, with additional performances on December 19th and 20th.
Weather-wise, the day promises to be overcast with low clouds and mist, with occasional light precipitation and possible freezing rain, especially in the eastern part of Slovakia. The highest daily temperature will range from -2 to 4 °C, reaching 4 to 10 °C with decreased cloud cover. SHMÚ has issued a level 1 warning for all Slovakia due to ice and fog.
