Tom Brady criticizes NFL quarterback play and supports suspended Steelers safety Damontae Kazee
Pittman and Kazee face consequences from the NFL, while Tom Brady defends Kazee, blaming QBs for exposing teammates to hits.
The NFL was buzzing on Monday when Pittman left the game due to a concussion and Kazee was ejected and then suspended for the rest of the season for repeated safety rule violations. However, Brady came to Kazee's defense, arguing that the issue lies more with where quarterbacks place the ball for their receivers than how defensive backs play.
In a comment on an Instagram post about the suspension, Brady expressed that while nobody likes to see players get hurt, hard hits are a part of the game. He believes that quarterbacks should not be throwing the ball in areas that expose their teammates to these types of hits, and that coaches need to do a better job, quarterbacks need to read coverage and throw to the right places, and defenders should aim for the right hitting areas. He emphasized the need for better quarterback play and stated that it's not okay for quarterbacks to get their wide receivers hit because of their bad decisions.
The play in question involved Gardner Minshew, a veteran journeyman who has been starting for the Colts due to injuries to star quarterbacks like Joe Burrow, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, and Deshaun Watson. Brady, who began his career as a backup, doesn't seem to be taking that as an excuse.
Brady will have the opportunity to share more of his thoughts on the current state of the NFL when he starts as an analyst for NFL on FOX next season.
