Ex-Kansas State quarterback Will Howard transfers to Ohio State
Former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard announces transfer to Ohio State to replace Kyle McCord, giving Buckeyes experience and depth.
Former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard has announced his decision to transfer to Ohio State, giving the Buckeyes a replacement for Kyle McCord, who is transferring to Syracuse. Howard, who made the announcement on social media, has one season of eligibility remaining after a successful stint as a starter for the Wildcats. He led them to victory in the 2022 Big 12 title game and helped them reach the Pop-Tarts Bowl this past season. With Kansas State expected to turn over its offense to five-star prospect Avery Johnson, Howard decided to enter the transfer portal and ultimately chose Ohio State over Miami and Southern California.
The 6-foot-5, 240-plus pound quarterback also considered declaring for the NFL draft before deciding to spend a year with the Buckeyes. With 27 games started and 5,786 passing yards and 48 touchdowns under his belt, Howard brings valuable experience and skills to Ohio State.
The Buckeyes missed out on the College Football Playoff after a regular-season loss to Michigan, leading them to the Cotton Bowl. McCord's transfer left them with Devin Brown as the starting quarterback against Missouri, but he left the game with a sprained ankle, forcing Lincoln Kienholz to take over in a 14-3 loss. On the other hand, Johnson, who led the Wildcats to a victory in the bowl game, threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 71 yards and another TD, and was voted the MVP of the Pop-Tarts Bowl for helping the Wildcats secure a 28-19 victory over North Carolina State.
