Night Swim Review: Amityville Bore - An Honest Opinion

Blumhouse's Night Swim disappoints after the success of M3GAN. The horror film is a lazy, uninspired effort that feels disposable.

Blumhouse has given us some incredible horror movies in the past, but their latest release, Night Swim, falls short of expectations. While last January's M3GAN was a hit, Night Swim fails to deliver the same level of excitement and originality.

Directed by Bryce McGuire, Night Swim shamelessly borrows from iconic horror films like Jaws, It, and Ghostbusters, but fails to bring anything new to the table. The film follows the story of Ray Waller, a former baseball player who is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and moves his family into a new home with a haunted pool. As the family begins to experience paranormal activity, Ray becomes obsessed with the pool's healing powers, putting his family at risk.

Wyatt Russell's performance as Ray Waller falls flat, lacking the menacing presence required for the role. The film's attempt to create tension and fear through predictable jump scares and unoriginal monsters feels forced and uninspired. Even the most promising scenes, such as a thrilling night swim sequence, are short-lived and fail to leave a lasting impact.

While the film's supporting characters, played by actors like Ben Sinclair and Nancy Lenehan, bring some much-needed comic relief, they are not enough to save the film from feeling like a lazy and forgettable effort. Night Swim may have drawn inspiration from classic horror movies, but it ultimately fails to deliver the same level of excitement and thrills.

Overall, Night Swim is a disappointing addition to Blumhouse's collection of horror films. While it has its moments, the film lacks the originality and creativity needed to make it a memorable and impactful horror movie. If you're looking for a truly terrifying experience, you might want to skip Night Swim and opt for one of the many better horror movies out there.
