Five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood verbally committed to LSU, choosing the program for its coaching staff, atmosphere, and potential for NFL development.
Bryce Underwood, the highly sought-after five-star quarterback and top recruit in the 2025 class, made a verbal commitment to LSU on Saturday. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 215 pounds, Underwood announced his decision at Belleville High (Mich.) cafeteria, choosing LSU over offers from Alabama and Michigan, as well as strong considerations for Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, and Georgia.
In an interview with 247Sports, Underwood expressed his reasons for choosing LSU, citing the great coaching staff, historical program, and the amazing atmosphere. He also mentioned the appeal of the food and the real people in the Louisiana State University community, noting that there are many individuals from Michigan with whom he can relate.
Despite falling short of a third consecutive state title this season, Underwood has an impressive track record, having won two state titles at Belleville. In his junior year, he threw for 3,165 yards, 40 touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also contributing seven rushing scores. These achievements led to him being named the Michigan state player of the year.
LSU's recruiting pitch was bolstered by Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels winning the Heisman Trophy this season, which undoubtedly played a role in Underwood's decision. Additionally, Underwood emphasized the importance of finding a school that can help him achieve his NFL aspirations, highlighting the impact of former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2019 and is now a star quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals.
For Underwood, the development as a quarterback and preparation for the NFL were crucial factors in his decision-making process. He also emphasized the significance of having a relatable offense as he looks ahead to his collegiate career.
