Spire Global: NOAA Contract for Satellite Weather Data Fetches $9.4 Million

Spire Global's satellite data improves global weather forecasts, awarded $9.4 million by NOAA, addressing critical need for accurate weather predictions.

Spire Global, Inc. (NYSE: SPIR), a leading provider of space-based data, analytics, and space services, has been awarded a $9.4 million contract by the National Oceanographic and Oceanic Administration (NOAA) to provide radio occultation (RO) data for an 8-month period. This award is part of an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract for NOAA's Commercial Weather Data Program's Radio Occultation Data Buy II.

The RO data provided by Spire's satellite constellation will significantly improve the accuracy of global weather forecasts, space weather models, and climate research. This data consists of vertical profiles of atmospheric measurements, including pressure, humidity, and temperature across all points of the globe, and will be used for near-real-time operational weather forecasts.

Chuck Cash, vice president of federal sales at Spire, emphasized the critical need for accurate weather forecasts in the face of increasing extreme weather events, which are causing significant harm to individuals, communities, businesses, and the economy at large. Through their long-standing relationship with NOAA, Spire is dedicated to addressing this need and helping the world better prepare for and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather using space-based radio occultation measurements.

Spire has been providing data to NOAA since 2016 and was most recently awarded a $2.8 million contract in September to provide data on ocean surface wind speeds. The company's fully deployed satellite constellation observes the Earth in real time using radio frequency technology, providing valuable insights about Earth's weather, ship and plane movements, and detection of spoofing and jamming to better predict their impact on economies, global security, business operations, and the environment.

In addition to their data and analytics services, Spire also offers Space as a Service solutions, empowering customers to leverage their established infrastructure to put their business in space. With offices across the U.S., Canada, UK, Luxembourg, Germany, and Singapore, Spire is at the forefront of providing innovative and impactful space-based solutions.
