Jamie Lee Curtis criticizes Bella Ramsey's Critics Choice joke about Ariana DeBose as "unfunny"
Jamie Lee Curtis criticizes Bella Ramsey for "unfunny" joke about Ariana DeBose at 2024 Critics Choice Awards. Curtis defends DeBose.
Jamie Lee Curtis recently criticized Bella Ramsey for a joke she made about Ariana DeBose at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards. Curtis took to Instagram to express her displeasure at the joke, which categorized DeBose as an actor who thinks they are a singer. Curtis posted a video showing DeBose's musical theater work to highlight her singing roles and called out Ramsey, tagging DeBose in the post's caption and using strong language to express her frustration.
However, some of Curtis' followers defended Ramsey, reminding her that the joke was likely written by someone else and that Ramsey was simply reading from a teleprompter. They urged Curtis to direct her complaints towards the writers rather than Ramsey.
DeBose, who was present at the ceremony for her Best Song nomination, did not appear amused by the joke and later posted on Instagram expressing her lack of amusement.
This is not the first time Curtis has publicly defended DeBose. She previously defended DeBose's performance at the 2023 BAFTAs and has also expressed interest in playing a role in Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece.
Curtis has faced backlash in the past for her comments about Gaza and support of Israel, which she later deleted. The actress has received criticism for her controversial posts.
