Elton John has achieved EGOT status by capturing the award for outstanding variety special (live) for "Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium." President Joe Biden congratulated John on the achievement on Instagram, calling him "a singer and songwriter of our time, for all time."
The EGOT -- or the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards -- is an honor that can be claimed by figures who have won at least one of each award. The ranks of EGOT winners include Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, Jennifer Hudson, and Mel Brooks. There are also stars who have achieved EGOTs through honorary non-competitive awards, such as Barbra Streisand, Harry Belafonte, and Liza Minnelli.
Currently, several stars are on the verge of achieving EGOT status. Kate Winslet has won two Emmys for "Mare of Easttown" and "Mildred Pierce," as well as a Grammy for "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," and six Tonys for various productions. Adele has won 15 Grammys for her music, and Lin-Manuel Miranda has won three Tonys, three Grammys, and three Emmys for his work. John Williams has won five Oscars, three Emmys, and 25 Grammys for his film scores. Frances McDormand has won three Oscars, two Emmys, and three Grammys. Julie Andrews has won two Grammys and two Emmys, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the Grammys. Lastly, Eminem has won 15 Grammys and four Emmys for his music and contributions to the entertainment industry.
