Succession, The Bear and Beef among winners: Full list of Emmy Awards 2021 victors

Succession, Beef, and The Bear were big winners at the Emmy Awards, with Sir Elton John finally achieving EGOT status.

The Emmy Awards, held in Los Angeles on Monday night, saw Succession, Beef, and The Bear emerge as the big winners of the evening. Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, and Matthew Macfadyen all received acting awards for their roles in Succession, with the show itself winning the best drama series overall. The creator, Jesse Armstrong, expressed both sadness and pleasure at the end of the show, acknowledging the high standards that spurred the cast and crew on to success.

Sir Elton John also achieved EGOT status, joining an exclusive club of performers who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. His live variety special, Elton Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, won the best live variety special award, marking his first Emmy nomination and win. Despite being unable to personally accept the honor due to a knee operation, Sir Elton expressed his joy and humorously attributed his knee problems to a lifetime of jumping off pianos. He dedicated the award to the joy of music and the magic it brings to our lives.

Other winners of the night included The White Lotus and Abbott Elementary. Succession, a critically acclaimed drama about a media mogul and the power struggles within his dysfunctional family, concluded after four seasons, receiving recognition at the Emmys with awards for writing and directing, as well as leading drama actress and actor awards for Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin. Snook attributed her success to the dress-up box her parents had when she was a child and dedicated her award to her daughter, acknowledging the strength she gained from her pregnancy during the last season. Culkin paid tribute to Jesse Armstrong for his brilliance as a writer and showrunner, and also expressed his desire for more children, as per his wife's suggestion.

British actor Matthew Macfadyen, who played Shiv's husband Tom, humorously mentioned his on-screen wife, Sarah Snook, and his other on-screen wife, Nicholas Braun, in his acceptance speech. Armstrong, the series' creator, also won the top prize for best writing in a drama series. Overall, the Emmy Awards celebrated the achievements of Succession, Sir Elton John, and other talented individuals in the entertainment industry.
