Investigation of Scott Peterson Case by L.A. Innocence Project
"Los Angeles Innocence Project investigates Scott Peterson's claim of innocence, representing him in case of Laci and Connor Peterson's murders."
The Los Angeles Innocence Project (LAIP) has taken on the case of Scott Peterson, who was convicted in 2004 of the first-degree murder of his wife, Laci Peterson, and the second-degree murder of their unborn son, Connor Peterson. This organization is investigating Peterson's claim of actual innocence, with his attorney Pat Harris expressing excitement about the skilled attorneys at the LA Innocence Project becoming involved in proving Scott's innocence.
Laci Peterson disappeared on Christmas Eve 2002 while eight months pregnant, and Scott claimed that she was killed after he left their Modesto, California home to go fishing in the San Francisco Bay. He quickly became a suspect, and after months of jury selection and a highly publicized trial, he was convicted of murdering his wife and unborn child.
Despite efforts for a new trial, including arguing that a juror in the 2004 trial committed misconduct, Scott was denied a new trial in December 2022 and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, Harris stated that the case is not over and that they have new evidence that allegedly proves Peterson's innocence. He also respectfully disagreed with the judge's decision regarding the alleged juror misconduct.
The LAIP's involvement in the case suggests a renewed effort to uncover the truth and potentially exonerate Scott Peterson. Their investigation could shed new light on a case that has captured public attention for years, offering hope for a different outcome for Peterson and his legal team.
