Liverpool secured their place in the final of the EFL Cup after a 1-1 draw with Fulham in the second leg of their semi-final at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night. Jurgen Klopp's team had previously won 2-1 in the first leg at Anfield on January 10 and managed to seal the deal in the English capital, setting up an exciting final against Chelsea, who defeated Middlesbrough 6-2 on aggregate. The final is set to take place at Wembley on February 25.
The match saw Luis Diaz putting Liverpool ahead in the 11th minute, only for Issa Diop to level the score in the 77th minute. However, Fulham was unable to find another goal, resulting in Liverpool winning 3-2 on aggregate in the semi-final.
The signs of danger were evident for Fulham early in the game, with Diaz heading a free kick just wide of the goal in the first two minutes. Darwin Nunez then tested Fulham's goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the sixth minute. Despite a slight improvement from Fulham, Diaz's deflected effort in the 11th minute put Liverpool 3-1 ahead on aggregate in the last-four tie.
Liverpool continued to press, with Diaz converting from close range in the 28th minute, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside. The match saw several chances for both teams, with Kelleher and Leno making crucial saves to keep the score at 1-0 in favor of Liverpool at halftime.
In the second half, both teams had opportunities to score, with Andreas Pereira hitting the post and Elliott firing at Leno. Despite a goal from Diop in the 77th minute, Fulham was unable to find the crucial goal to level the scores at 3-3, allowing Liverpool to advance to the final.
Looking ahead, both teams will shift their focus to the fourth round of the FA Cup, with Fulham hosting Newcastle United and Liverpool welcoming Norwich City over the weekend.
