Jurgen Klopp admits relief Liverpool decision seeks normal life
Klopp has announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, with Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso as his possible successor.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made the decision to leave the club at the end of the season, and he feels relieved about it. Klopp's standing at Anfield made it unlikely for him to be sacked, and he extended his contract two years beyond the seven he served at both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund. Despite being physically and emotionally drained last summer, Klopp chose to stay on in order to put things right. However, by November, he knew he had to get out.
Klopp expressed that the relief was there when he made the decision for himself, and now the feeling is mixed. He emphasized that he wants to win everything this season, but it wouldn't change his mind if they don't win anything. He made the decision independently of any results.
In his first press conference as Liverpool boss in 2015, Klopp declared himself the 'normal one' and maintains that is who he is despite his high profile. He has no regrets about any decisions he has taken at Liverpool, but he admits he has missed out on life away from football.
Klopp plans to take a year off and then see how he feels, but has ruled out a return to management in England. He also stated that no club, no country, and no other English club for the next year. Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has emerged as the early favorite to succeed Klopp, but he insists his focus is solely on his current role and that he is in "the right place."
