SNL: Ayo Edebiri Mocks Her Resurfaced Jennifer Lopez Remarks
Edebiri's sketch on SNL calls out online trolls and addresses her own controversial remarks, sparking laughter and self-reflection.
In the sketch "Why'd You Say It?," Edebiri took on the role of Annie, a contestant on a game show where participants are asked to explain or justify comments they made on other people's Instagram posts. The sketch essentially called out online trolls, and in a particularly well-acted and self-reflective moment, Edebiri's character Annie delivered a monologue that seemed to address remarks the actress herself had made in real life mocking Lopez's singing career.
Annie exclaimed, "OK, OK! We get it. It's wrong to leave mean comments or post just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast without considering the impact because you're 24 and stupid. But I think I speak for everyone when I say, from now on, we're going to be a lot more thoughtful about what we post online."
The audience burst into laughter at the joke, as it was clear that Edebiri was poking fun at her own remarks made in 2020 at the age of 24 on the Scam Goddess podcast. During the podcast, she had expressed her belief that Jennifer Lopez's music career was "one long scam," and added that Lopez thinks she's on multiple tracks when she's not actually the one singing most of the songs.
While neither Edebiri nor Lopez have publicly addressed the comments directly, they did appear together in a promo for their episode released on Thursday. In the episode, Lopez delivered two strong musical performances, first with an energetic rendition of "Can't Get Enough" alongside Latto and Redman, and then in a stunning gown made of pink flowers for a memorable performance of "This Is Me... Now."
