Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh was treated to a mesmerizing performance by classical vocalist Padma Bhushan Begum Parveen Sultana at Bharat Bhavan on Wednesday evening. The event was part of an eight-day celebration marking the 42nd Foundation Day of Bharat Bhavan.
The renowned singer captivated the audience with her rendition of Vilambit and Drut Khayal songs in Raga Yaman, showcasing her incredible talent and energy at the age of 73. Accompanied by Pt Mukun Raj Devrat on tabla, Sriniwas Acharya on harmonium, and Jahdav Sultana on vocal, Sultana's performance also included Drut Khyal in Raga Basant and a soul-stirring Ram Bhajan, 'na kachhu re Ram bina...'
Before her performance, Sultana expressed her deep connection with Bharat Bhavan, having performed there around 15 times and receiving immense love and affection from the institution and the audience. She expressed her gratitude to the city of Bhopal, known for its scholars, poets, writers, and shayars, and particularly appreciated the presence of a young audience.
Sultana also praised the staff of Bharat Bhavan for their impeccable Hindi, joking that it took her two to three hours to read the invitation letter due to the pure Hindi used, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. The concert was conducted by art critic Vinay Upadhyay, and actor Nitish Bhardwaj was also in attendance.
The event kicked off with captivating performances by folk singers Roshan and Kanchan, who presented Musadha songs, followed by Gautam Kale's performance, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening of music and artistry.
