Bruins defeat Stars in shootout after long road battle

Bruins break 4-game skid with 4-3 shootout win over Stars. McAvoy scores in 9th round, Swayman makes 43 saves.

The Boston Bruins ended a four-game losing streak with a hard-fought 4-3 shootout victory over the Dallas Stars on Monday. Charlie McAvoy scored the winning goal in the ninth round of the shootout, while Jeremy Swayman made an impressive 43 saves, a career-high for the young goaltender.

McAvoy, in addition to his shootout heroics, also contributed two assists in regulation. Jesper Boqvist, Justin Brazeau, and David Pastrnak also found the back of the net for the Bruins. Brazeau's goal was particularly significant, as he became the first Bruins player to score in his NHL debut since March 31, 2022.

Swayman's performance was crucial to the victory, with 21 saves in the second period and seven more in the shootout. Despite the Stars' 46-30 advantage in shots on goal, Swayman's stellar play kept the Bruins in the game.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with Dallas taking a 3-2 lead in the third period. Esa Lindell's go-ahead goal with just over nine minutes remaining seemed to put the Stars in control. However, with Swayman pulled for an extra attacker, Pastrnak's late goal off a McAvoy feed forced overtime.

The Bruins had opened the scoring early in the first period, with Boqvist deflecting a pass from Anthony Richard into the net. Dallas responded with goals from Wyatt Johnston and Ryan Suter, but the Bruins quickly equalized each time, with Brazeau and Pastrnak finding the net.

Ultimately, it was McAvoy's shootout heroics that secured the win for the Bruins, ending their losing streak and giving them a much-needed victory.
