Dalton Knecht and Tobe Awaka Tennessee basketball stave off Missouri upset
Tennessee guard Dalton Knecht led the Vols to a 72-67 win against Missouri with a double-double. They face Texas A&M next.
Tennessee basketball guard Dalton Knecht was met with three Missouri defenders as he crossed halfcourt. This momentarily stopped him from scoring, but it didn't stop the Vols. Knecht made a two-handed pass to Tobe Awaka for an open dunk, giving the Vols an eight-point lead against last-place Missouri after a worrisome stretch. Ultimately, No. 5 Tennessee staved off disaster at upset-focused Missouri, winning 72-67 at Mizzou Arena.
Knecht had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Awaka contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds. Despite a slow start, Knecht turned it around in the second half, a familiar scene for the guard who has been instrumental in UT's comeback wins at Georgia and Vanderbilt.
Additionally, Jonas Aidoo made significant contributions for Tennessee, particularly in the second half. Vols coach Rick Barnes utilized a two-big lineup, with Awaka and Aidoo both making big plays throughout the game.
Looking ahead, Tennessee will host Texas A&M on Saturday. The Vols previously lost to Texas A&M on February 10th and will be seeking redemption in their upcoming matchup.
