Donald Trump considering anti-LGBTQ+ extremist Greg Abbott for vice president
Trump considering anti-LGBTQ+ Texas Governor Greg Abbott as running mate, praising his actions against trans rights and drag performances.
Donald Trump recently mentioned that he is contemplating the idea of having Texas Governor Greg Abbott as his running mate, despite Abbott's strong anti-LGBTQ+ stance.
During an interview on Fox News, Trump praised Abbott, calling him "a spectacular man" and acknowledging his performance as governor. Trump expressed his consideration of Abbott as a potential running mate, stating that he would be someone he would seriously think about.
Earlier this year, Abbott made headlines for taking control of a public park in Eagle Pass, Texas, a border town, and preventing Border Patrol from using a boat ramp in the park. He also erected a fence around the park, causing controversy with the local government.
Trump recently met with Abbott in the park and commended him for his efforts in challenging federal border security authority. Trump lauded Abbott for his actions, describing them as impressive.
Abbott has a history of anti-LGBTQ+ actions, including attempts to classify gender-affirming care as child abuse and banning doctors from providing such care to transgender minors. Transgender students are also prohibited from participating in school sports as their gender in Texas.
In addition, Abbott signed a drag ban last year, which was later ruled unconstitutional by a judge. He has also been involved in legal battles with the Biden administration over transgender rights and restroom usage.
Furthermore, Abbott signed the controversial "Save Chick-fil-A" bill in 2019, which protects businesses with "religious beliefs" from adverse actions, even if those beliefs conflict with the law. This move was seen as aligning with Chick-fil-A's anti-LGBTQ+ stance.
