Kathryn Barger Celebrates Women's History Month
Celebrate Women's History Month with the strong women of Los Angeles County making history in various fields and inspiring others.
March is a month dedicated to celebrating the incredible contributions and achievements of women throughout history. In Los Angeles County, we are fortunate to have a diverse group of women who are breaking barriers and making history in various fields.
From the all-women Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to the women serving in the Los Angeles County Fire Department, these women are paving the way for future generations. I recently had the privilege of meeting with the Women's Fire League and witnessing the strength, determination, and capabilities of the women in the Women's Fire Prep Academy.
This program is not just about training the next generation of first responders, it is about inspiring other women to consider careers in public service. The Board of Supervisors is committed to increasing diversity and equity within the Fire Department, as evidenced by a recent motion to ensure women have access to properly fitting uniforms for their safety on the job.
The impact of women in leadership extends far beyond the County government. Women are leading businesses, nonprofits, the arts, media, education, science, healthcare, public safety, athletics, the military, and their families. The influence of women is limitless, and they are changing lives and leading the way in every community.
If you are interested in learning more about Women's History Month, the L.A. County Library offers a variety of in-person events, virtual programming, booklists, and digital resources for all ages. To stay connected with the County's efforts to support women, consider reaching out to the Los Angeles County Commission for Women and the Women and Girls Initiative.
This Women's History Month, let's celebrate the achievements of women from all walks of life and career paths. By coming together to learn from one another and empower each other, we can continue to make history and create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
