Two talented UCONN commits, Morgan Cheli and Allie Ziebell, are making waves in their high school basketball careers as they gear up to join the Huskies in the upcoming season. Recently, both players were recognized with Naismith All-America honors, with Cheli receiving first team accolades and Ziebell earning an honorable mention.
Cheli, a standout 6-foot-2 guard from Archbishop Mitty Monarchs in California, has been a force to be reckoned with this season, leading her team to an undefeated record and their fourth consecutive NorCal Open championship. She is currently ranked as the 18th recruit in the 2024 class and has showcased her skills on the international stage by winning gold with the U17 U.S. National Team at the 2022 FIBA U17 Women's World Cup. In her senior season, Cheli is averaging an impressive 15 points, 7.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game, leading Archbishop Mitty to victory in the 2023 Nike Tournament of Champions and securing the program's top spot among high schools in the nation.
On the other hand, Ziebell, a 6-foot guard from Neenah High School in Wisconsin, has also been making headlines with her stellar performances. Leading her team to a win in the WIAA section final and securing a spot in the state tournament for the first time since 2009, Ziebell has proven herself as a top talent in the 2024 class. Ranked as the 4th recruit in her class, she has already achieved significant milestones, including winning gold with the U19 U.S. National Team at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's World Cup and being named the 2023 Gatorade Player of the Year in Wisconsin. Ziebell's impressive scoring record has also earned her a spot in state history, currently ranking fourth with 2,744 career points.
Both Cheli and Ziebell have been selected to represent Team USA in the 2024 Nike Hoop Summit, further solidifying their status as rising stars in the world of basketball. As they continue to excel in their high school careers and prepare to make their mark at UCONN, these two talented players are undoubtedly ones to watch in the upcoming season.
