East Village Radio to relaunch next month with original grassroots mission, freeform approach, and commitment to independent minded DJs.
East Village Radio, the iconic online radio station that was a staple in New York's East Village from 2003-2016, is making a comeback next month. The station, known for its intimate studio setup that allowed passersby to interact with DJs through a glass window on the sidewalk, will be relaunched with a new team led by veteran program director Brian Turner.
The station, which featured guest appearances from artists like Amy Winehouse, Duran Duran, and members of the New York Dolls and the Smiths, was a beloved neighborhood institution. Owner Frank Prisinzano is excited to bring back the station with a renewed focus on independent-minded DJs and a commitment to freeform radio that blurs boundaries and pays homage to the great FM stations of the past.
If you're interested in hosting a show on the relaunched East Village Radio, you can contact Brian Turner at [email protected]. The station, which originally started broadcasting on a low power transmitter before moving online, is looking to relaunch with sponsors and a fresh perspective that addresses past challenges.
Prisinzano is optimistic about the station's future, stating, "We're starting again and considering all the problems we had before and implementing new solutions. We're hoping to relaunch in April 2024." With support from sponsors like Clash Music, East Village Radio is poised to make a triumphant return to the airwaves.
