Jennifer and James Crumbley, the parents of Ethan Crumbley, were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for their failure to intervene before their son opened fire, killing four students and injuring seven others.

During the sentencing, Judge Cheryl Matthews criticized the Crumbleys for allowing unfettered access to guns in their home, stating that they were aware of the potential danger but did not take appropriate action. Despite their claims of not knowing about Ethan's mental health issues or his plans to carry out the shooting, the judge held them accountable for their negligence.

In addition to their failure to address their son's mental health needs, the Crumbleys were also charged for not securing the gun used in the shooting. James Crumbley had purchased the firearm for his son just days before the tragic incident, further highlighting the family's lack of responsibility.

Despite warnings from school officials about Ethan's concerning behavior, the Crumbleys chose to keep him in school on the day of the shooting. This decision ultimately led to the devastating loss of life and injuries at Oxford High School.

While the Crumbleys have been given credit for the time they have already spent in jail, they plan to appeal the sentences handed down on Tuesday.
