Alligator halts play at Zurich Classic in Louisiana: Struts across tee box
Louisiana gator interrupts PGA Tour event, adding excitement to typical round of golf. Alligators becoming common sight on courses.
Louisiana, with its population of over 2 million alligators, is no stranger to these modern-day dinosaurs making appearances in unexpected places. While many of these reptiles reside in the vast swamp lands that dominate the state, some can also be found leisurely strolling through golf course water hazards.
It's not uncommon to hear stories of alligators roaming golf courses in Florida or even catching them in the act of devouring a large fish in North Carolina. However, the latest sighting occurred at a PGA Tour event in Louisiana, adding a thrilling twist to the game.
During the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, players Bronson Burgoon, Jhonattan Vegas, Paul Barjon, and Samuel Stevens were preparing to tee off on the 17th hole when a curious alligator, measuring about 5 or 6 feet, decided to join the party. The unexpected visitor caused a brief delay as the players waited for the gator to pass through the tee box.
This is not the first time alligators have made an appearance at the TPC of Louisiana in Avondale. Fans may remember Tripod, a three-legged gator who became a beloved mascot of sorts. More recently, another gator with a missing front limb was spotted, adding a touch of excitement to the otherwise routine PGA event.
Despite the interruption, both groups managed to par the hole, and the tournament continued without further incident. The unpredictability of these encounters adds a sense of thrill to the game, reminding players and spectators alike that nature is always full of surprises.
So, the next time you hit the links in Louisiana, keep an eye out for these fascinating creatures - you never know when a friendly alligator might decide to join you for a round of golf!
