Dallas Stars Future Stars program launch
Dallas Stars promote inclusion by refurbishing gym for Boys and Girls Club, introducing hockey to under-represented communities locally and internationally.
The Dallas Stars have long been committed to promoting inclusion within their team, particularly through their community outreach efforts. This commitment was further demonstrated on Tuesday as they unveiled a newly renovated gym at the Cedar Springs Boys and Girls Club.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by a spirited Stars pep rally and a special opportunity for Boys and Girls Club members to play ball hockey with Stars alumni. The revamped gym now boasts new ball hockey equipment, a state-of-the-art scoreboard, fresh paint, and vibrant decorations.
This project was undertaken as part of the Dallas Stars' Future Stars program, which seeks to introduce hockey to communities across the Metroplex by partnering with Boys and Girls Clubs and local schools. Al Montoya, the Dallas Stars Vice President of Cultural Growth and Strategy, emphasized the importance of inclusivity in making the game accessible to a wide range of children.
In addition to their efforts in the local community, the Dallas Stars are also focused on expanding the game of hockey in Mexico and other under-represented communities both locally and internationally. This initiative is a result of a partnership with the National Hockey League, which is dedicated to introducing the sport to as many students as possible.
DeRon Bethea, the BGCD Athletics Director, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to bring street hockey to Club kids who may not have otherwise been exposed to the sport. The collaboration with the Dallas Stars has the potential to expand the program to even more Boys and Girls Clubs in the future.
The Dallas Stars are enthusiastic about offering hockey to Club kids as a means of promoting important life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and discipline through sports. Their dedication to inclusivity and community engagement continues to make a positive impact both locally and globally.
