Shane Lowry ties major championship record shooting 9-under 62 at PGA

Irish golfer Shane Lowry ties major championship record with a 9-under 62 at PGA Championship, putting him in contention.

Shane Lowry made history at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky during the PGA Championship by shooting a remarkable 9-under 62 in the third round. The 37-year-old Irishman's flawless round included nine birdies without a single bogey, matching the lowest round ever recorded in any of the four major tournaments.

This achievement tied him with four other players who had previously posted a 62 in major championships, including Xander Schauffele who did so in the opening round at Valhalla just days before. Lowry's stellar performance put him in contention for his second major title, having previously won the British Open at Royal Portrush in 2019.

Despite starting the day eight shots behind the leader, Lowry's incredible round brought him to 13 under and within striking distance of the top spot. He started strong with four consecutive birdies and maintained his momentum throughout the round, narrowly missing out on a birdie putt on the final hole that would have secured him the lowest round in major championship history.

While Lowry had to settle for sharing the record with others who have achieved the same feat in recent years, his performance showcased his skill and determination on the course. With the 18th hole playing as the easiest of the day, Lowry's near-perfect round was a testament to his talent and ability to compete at the highest level in golf.
