DeVante Parker retires two months after signing Eagles
NFL wide receiver DeVante Parker retires after nine seasons, including a brief stint with the Eagles, to prioritize family time.
Wide receiver DeVante Parker has decided to retire from the NFL after an impressive nine seasons in the league. This decision comes just two months after he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal worth $1.2 million in March. Parker expressed to ESPN that his main priority now is to spend quality time with his children and be there for them whenever possible.
Throughout his career, Parker played for the Miami Dolphins for seven seasons after being drafted 14th overall in 2015. He then spent the last two seasons with the New England Patriots before joining the Eagles. Last season, Parker recorded 33 catches for 394 yards in 13 games, but unfortunately did not score any touchdowns.
Over the span of 119 career games, with 88 starts, Parker accumulated an impressive stat line of 402 receptions for 5,660 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was anticipated to be a valuable option as WR3 for the Eagles alongside stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Philadelphia also bolstered their receiving corps by signing Parris Campbell and drafting two wide receivers.
Parker expressed his gratitude towards all the teams he played for, especially the Dolphins for giving him his start in the NFL. He also thanked the Patriots and the Eagles for welcoming him with open arms during his time with them. Despite retiring, Parker will always have love for the Dolphins and their organization, as they were the team that believed in him from the beginning.
