Anthony Edwards Wolves Shortcomings Game 2 Loss Mavericks

Anthony Edwards discusses Timberwolves' Game 2 loss, emphasizing the need to balance playmaking and scoring. Optimistic about team's prospects.

After a thrilling 109-108 loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves shared insights into what led to their defeat. Edwards openly acknowledged the team's struggle to find the right balance between making the right play and taking the initiative to score.

"They're just showing me crowds, man, sitting in the gaps. But I'm turning down a lot of shots, like my midranges and stuff. I'm turning a lot of those down. But we're getting open looks, so I ain't tripping... They're open, so I'm making the right play. But sometimes the right play may be to just shoot it."

Despite leading by 18 points in the first half, the Timberwolves were unable to maintain their momentum as Luka Doncic's clutch three-pointer and Kyrie Irving's leadership fueled the Mavericks' comeback and secured a narrow victory. The Wolves lacked the decisive play that could have turned the game in their favor.

However, Edwards remains hopeful for his team's future, drawing on past experiences of overcoming similar challenges. He emphasized the importance of maintaining composure and focus in the face of adversity.

"I don't think anyone in the locker room is panicking. I hope not. Just come out and play our brand of basketball. We let them make a run, we're supposed to go up big but, they made a run and cut it right before the half. We made some mistakes but we'll be alright."

Anthony Edwards showcased impressive energy on both offense and defense in the Western Conference Finals, earning praise from Doncic for his stellar performance. Despite facing challenges in Game 2 against the Mavericks, Edwards managed to contribute 21 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds, albeit with less efficient shooting.

While Edwards admitted to feeling fatigued in Game 1, his subsequent performances have been noteworthy, with an average of 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.5 assists throughout the series. Despite his exceptional efforts, luck has not been on the side of Edwards and the Timberwolves in their matchup against the Mavericks.
