Akron, Ohio is currently in a state of shock and confusion following an overnight shooting incident that left 25 people injured, with one confirmed fatality. The Mayor, Shammas Malik, along with Police Chief Brian Harding and acting Fire Chief Steven Kaut, are scheduled to hold a press conference at 6:30 p.m. today to provide updates on the tragic event that took place in the area of Kelly Avenue and 8th Avenue.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Akron police responded to multiple reports of shots fired at the scene. Subsequently, local hospitals reported an influx of individuals with gunshot wounds arriving at their emergency departments.

Initial reports suggested 27 victims, but a later statement from Mayor Malik and Chief Harding revised the number to 25, with one individual tragically losing their life. Police have recovered a firearm and numerous casings from the crime scene, but details regarding any suspects remain elusive.
