Cucumber Recall 2024: 14 States Hit With Salmonella Cucumber Recalls
Cucumber recall in 14 states due to salmonella risk. Check with retailers for affected produce. FDA testing for larger outbreak.
A cucumber recall has been initiated in 14 states due to the potential risk of salmonella infection from contaminated vegetables. Fresh Start Produce Sales of Delray, Fla. announced the recall after a sample from Pennsylvania tested positive for bacteria. Although the company believes the affected cucumbers may not have reached store shelves, consumers in the 14 states are advised to check with retailers about the origin of their cucumbers.
To provide further information, Fresh Start Produce Sales has provided shipping dates for the recalled cucumbers, which were shipped between May 17 and May 21. Consumers should be vigilant for symptoms of salmonella, including diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, especially those at higher risk such as adults over 65, children under five, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is conducting tests on the contaminated cucumbers through whole-genome sequencing to determine if they are linked to a larger salmonella outbreak. For more details on this developing story and other relevant news, be sure to check out the links below!
