Heat advisory in effect Tuesday: Tips to stay safe and cool

Central Texas under heat advisory with feel-like temperatures above 105. Isolated storm possible. Heat precautions advised. Storms possible overnight.

Today in Central Texas, temperatures are expected to reach the mid 90s, but with high humidity levels, it could feel like it's above 105 in some areas. A heat advisory is in effect for parts of Central Texas and the Brazos Valley, urging residents to take precautions against the intense heat. There is also a possibility of isolated storms, with one potentially forming northeast of Waco this evening.

The morning is starting off very humid in Central Texas, with dew points in the upper 70s. As high pressure aloft moves into West Texas, bringing summer-like heat, the combination of heat and humidity will result in feel-like temperatures exceeding 105 in certain spots. It is important to stay hydrated and take necessary heat precautions if spending time outdoors during the peak heat of the day.

There is a chance of a dying complex of storms producing an outflow boundary along the I-45 corridor, which could trigger a stray storm later in the day. Models indicate the possibility of a complex of storms moving in overnight from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with the highest chances for storms along and east of I-35. The main threats from these storms would be gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

As high pressure shifts eastward later in the week, storm chances may decrease, pushing them towards the eastern regions of Central Texas. However, heat and humidity will persist, with feel-like temperatures remaining above 105. By the weekend and early next week, high pressure is expected to move westward, allowing for passing storms and slightly cooler temperatures. There are even indications of a potential cold front early next week, though temperatures are currently forecasted to remain in the low 90s.

Stay informed and have a great Tuesday!
