Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Woodbury closes abruptly
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Woodbury closes after franchise operator files for bankruptcy, blaming pandemic and changing theater habits.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Woodbury, known for its unique selection of arthouse films, extensive dinner menu, and variety of craft beers, abruptly closed its doors on Thursday following a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing by its Texas-based franchise operator. Reports from Minnesota Public Radio and other sources confirmed the closure, leaving employees and patrons stunned.
The franchise operator, Two is One and One is None, announced the closures on social media, revealing that five out of six locations in North Texas were affected. CEO Bill DiGaetano expressed deep regret over the company's financial losses, citing the impact of the pandemic and shifting consumer preferences as contributing factors to the closure. The shutdown is permanent, resulting in the termination of all employees.
DiGaetano, who had previously showcased the Woodbury location at the Woodbury Lakes Mall during its opening in 2018, expressed sorrow over the closure, emphasizing the emotional toll of the situation. Efforts to reach local managers for comment were unsuccessful.
A spokesperson for Alamo Drafthouse Cinema expressed disappointment over the closure, assuring that efforts are underway to resume operations in the affected cities. Despite this setback, the national cinema chain remains committed to its expansion plans and ensuring the continued success of its other locations across the country.
