Rivian unveils 2nd-Gen R1 Electric Vehicles with Apple Wallet Car Key and Spatial Audio support for Apple Music

Rivian unveils second-gen R1 electric vehicles with Apple integrations, including digital car keys and Apple Music with Spatial Audio.

Rivian has recently unveiled the second-generation R1 electric vehicles from its lineup, bringing a massive revamp with a plethora of new features, including integrations with Apple products. Owners of the latest R1 EVs can now add their digital car keys to Apple Wallet, allowing them to easily unlock and start their vehicles.

Moreover, Rivian has introduced Apple Music with Spatial Audio integration and Dolby Atmos support to enhance the infotainment system experience in their new electric vehicles. The company has made significant improvements to its R1T electric pickup and R1S electric SUV, offering a new Quad Motor capable of delivering 1,025 horsepower and accelerating from zero to 60 MPH in just 2.5 seconds.

The focus of these new EVs is on integrating Apple products, particularly with the introduction of Apple Wallet's car key support. Users can now unlock and start their 2nd-gen R1T and R1S electric vehicles using their iPhone or Apple Watch, and even share digital car keys with family and friends.

In addition, Rivian's new Connect+ subscription package includes Apple Music with Spatial Audio integration, allowing users to stream music via Dolby Atmos directly on the infotainment system. The R1S electric SUV starts at $75,900, while the R1T electric pickup is priced at $69,900, with both models available for purchase and delivery starting today.

Rivian has been making significant strides in its electric vehicle developments over the past year, with a focus on expanding its fleet and bringing in new talent. The company recently hired former Apple and Porsche executive Jonas Reinke to enhance its R1 lineup and upcoming R2 developments. Additionally, DJ Novotney, a former Apple VP with experience in hardware engineering, has also joined Rivian's team, bringing insights from his work on Project Titan, Apple's canceled car project.

These strategic hires have played a crucial role in Rivian's latest electric vehicle offerings, with the new R1T and R1S models featuring Apple Wallet car key support, Apple Music integration with Spatial Audio, and Dolby Atmos support. The company's commitment to innovation and integration with top tech brands like Apple is evident in the enhanced features of their latest electric vehicles.
