Rebecca Grossman sentenced to 15 years to life for killing two brothers in Westlake Village crosswalk. Victim's mother calls her a coward.
Rebecca Grossman has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the tragic deaths of two brothers she struck while speeding through a Westlake Village crosswalk four years ago. The judge deemed her actions as reckless and unquestionably negligent, leading to the devastating loss of 11-year-old Mark Iskander and 8-year-old Jacob Iskander.
During the sentencing, Nancy Iskander, the grieving mother of the boys, passionately called for justice, emphasizing the need for the sentence to reflect the magnitude of her sons' deaths. The judge ultimately handed down two concurrent terms, plus an additional three years for fleeing the scene of the fatal crash.
Despite the severity of the situation, the judge acknowledged that Grossman is not the monster portrayed by prosecutors. In a courtroom filled with emotion, Grossman, appearing with her hair pulled back in a ponytail, expressed remorse and agreed to pay restitution to the Iskander family. Her lawyers noted that she had already contributed towards funeral expenses.
This sentencing marks the end of a lengthy legal battle, during which Grossman struggled to accept responsibility for her actions. Even after her conviction, she attempted to manipulate the case from behind bars. In a moment of vulnerability during her sentencing, Grossman tearfully expressed her deep regret and acknowledged the pain experienced by the Iskander family.
The trial, spanning six weeks and filled with dramatic testimony, culminated in Grossman's conviction on multiple charges, including murder and gross vehicular manslaughter. Despite her claims of not seeing anyone during the incident, the court held her accountable for the tragic deaths of Mark and Jacob Iskander in September 2020.
