Josh Giddey traded from Thunder to Bulls for Alex Caruso. Giddey faced accusations but was cleared. Caruso known for defense.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have made a significant trade, sending Josh Giddey to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for guard Alex Caruso, according to a source familiar with the deal. The trade, which cannot be officially announced until July 6, was first reported by ESPN.
Giddey, a 21-year-old point guard, had faced scrutiny this season after allegations surfaced on social media regarding an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl. Both the NBA and the Newport Beach Police Department conducted investigations, with the police ultimately finding no evidence of criminal activity and the NBA dropping its investigation.
Despite the off-court distractions, Giddey's on-court performance saw a decline this season, with averages of 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on 47.5% shooting. However, his play improved in the second half of the season after the Thunder acquired Gordon Hayward.
Caruso, a 30-year-old guard known for his defensive prowess, has spent time with both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Bulls. He has career averages of 6.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, with a career-high 10.1 points per game this past season. Caruso was named to the NBA's All-Defensive First Team in 2023 and the Second Team in 2024.
With the addition of Caruso, the Thunder now have a solid backcourt duo alongside Cason Wallace, a second-team all-rookie selection. Giddey, who was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and made the All-Rookie Second Team, will look to make an impact with the Bulls.
This trade marks a significant move for both teams as they look to improve their rosters for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates as the NBA offseason progresses.
