McMullen Competes Olympic Spot Heptathlon Hayward Field University Colorado Athletics

Colorado athlete competes for Olympic spot in heptathlon, with ups and downs in day one. Exciting finals ahead. Watch live!

On June 23rd, in Eugene, Oregon, Colorado's athletes showcased their skills in the heptathlon event to secure a spot on the United States Olympic Track and Field Team. After the first day of competition, McMullen currently holds the 15th spot with 3,499 points.

McMullen kicked off the day with the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 12th place with a time of 13.55. She then proceeded to the high jump, matching her season best by clearing the bar at 1.70 meters, securing a 12th place finish. However, a 17th place in the shot put event with a throw of 11.30 meters caused her to drop to 17th place overall. In the final event of the day, the 200 meters, McMullen ran a strong race with a time of 23.95, winning her heat and moving up to 15th place overall.

Looking ahead to day two, McMullen will start with the long jump at 11:00 a.m. MT, followed by the javelin throw at 12:10 p.m. MT, and concluding with the 800 meters at 7:37 p.m. MT.

Another former Buff, Sage Hurta-Klecker, secured a spot in the 800-meter finals after finishing second in her heat with a time of 2:01.11. Despite two false starts, Hurta-Klecker made her move at the 300-meter mark, maintaining the lead until Raven Rogers surged ahead in the final 100 meters. The final race is scheduled for 8:32 p.m. MT on Monday.
