House GOP campaign arm gifts Squad Rep. Jamaal Bowman farewell.
NRCC trolls Rep. Jamaal Bowman with unemployment package after primary defeat, referencing false fire alarm incident. Bowman declines comment.
House Republican campaign operatives took a jab at Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) after his primary loss to George Latimer by delivering an unemployment package to Bowman's office. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) sent gifts referencing Bowman's past plea of guilty for falsely pulling a fire alarm to delay a House vote.
The package included a photo of Bowman in firefighter gear and an application for a "fire inspector" position paying $28.25 per hour. The gifts also featured a workplace reference from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who endorsed Bowman.
Despite Jeffries' support, Bowman lost to Latimer by 17 percentage points in the race for New York's 16th Congressional District. The NRCC criticized extreme House Democrats for their alleged antisemitism and police defunding efforts.
Bowman's office did not comment on the package, but a video showed an aide throwing it away. Bowman himself was seen leaving his home in Yonkers wearing a "Star Wars" shirt and declined to comment on his loss.
Bowman previously made headlines for falsely pulling a fire alarm to delay a House vote, resulting in a $1,000 fine and censure by the House. He also faced criticism for his 9/11 conspiracy theories and controversial comments regarding Hamas.
The congressman's primary defeat and past actions have raised concerns among House Republicans, who see it as a sign of the party's shift towards extremism. Despite the loss, Bowman remains a member of the "Squad" and continues to serve in Congress.
