Clippers Extend Russell Westbrook's Contract: All-Star Guard Re-Signs for Two More Years
Russell Westbrook agrees to contract extension with LA Clippers.
Russell Westbrook has agreed to a contract extension with the LA Clippers, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The two-year deal is worth $7.8 million, a significant decrease from his previous earnings of over $47 million in the previous season.
Westbrook began the 2022-23 season with the Lakers but was eventually traded to the Jazz in February. After reaching a buyout agreement with Utah, he joined the Clippers and started 26 games for the team before their elimination in the playoffs by the Suns.
The new contract includes a player option after the 2023-24 season. Despite being 34 years old, Westbrook quickly assumed the starting point guard role for the Clippers upon his arrival. He had previously started only three out of 52 games played for the Lakers in the 2022-23 season.
During his 21 regular season games with the Clippers, Westbrook showcased his skills by averaging 15.8 points, 7.6 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game. He also achieved career-high shooting percentages with a 48.9% field goal percentage and a 35.6% 3-point percentage.
Throughout his impressive 15-year NBA career, Westbrook has earned a total of $336.4 million. He has played for various teams including the Thunder, Rockets, Wizards, Lakers, and now the Clippers.
