NASCAR Race in Chicago: Weekend Weather Forecast
Scattered thunderstorms expected to impact NASCAR event in downtown Chicago.
On June 29, 2023, before a game between the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies, people had the opportunity to check out a Michael Jordan-themed race car that would be driven by Bubba Wallace. The race car was parked outside DraftKings Sportsbook and Wrigley Field, attracting the attention of many spectators.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service had some updates regarding the weather conditions in the area. They predicted that the haze and fog that had been covering parts of north central and northeastern Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana, would start to dissipate. This was due to scattered thunderstorms that were expected to move into the area from Friday afternoon onwards.
However, officials warned that some of these storms could be severe, particularly in the southern areas of the region. Damaging winds and large hail were possible in these areas. Additionally, more storms were expected to develop in the evening, with the likelihood of them increasing after midnight.
In addition to the storms, there was also a risk of excessive heat. The temperature had already reached 88 degrees in the afternoon at both of Chicago's airports.
Meteorologists were closely monitoring a front that was bringing severe thunderstorms and heavy rain from the Central Plains to the Ohio Valley. These storms were expected to move eastward and reach the Great Lakes by Sunday morning.
For those planning to attend the NASCAR event on Saturday, they should be prepared for scattered thunderstorms after 4 p.m. The temperature was expected to reach a high of 79 degrees, with a 60 percent chance of rain.
Furthermore, there was a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday.
On Sunday, the forecast predicted showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with a high temperature of around 72 degrees.
Looking ahead to the 4th of July holiday on Tuesday, the forecast was sunny with a high of 84 degrees. However, there was a chance of showers returning on Wednesday.
