Reasons Why Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift's Ex, Need Not Worry About the Speak Now Re-Recordings

Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner broke up due to distance and busy schedules.

In the wake of the release of Speak Now (Taylor's Version), Taylor Swift's devoted fans, known as Swifties, are revisiting the singer's past relationships. One relationship that has garnered attention is the one between Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner. Although it has been over a decade since their breakup, fans are still curious about why the two Taylors called it quits.

Swift and Lautner first met on the set of the film Valentine's Day in 2009, where they played a fictional couple. However, their connection extended beyond the screen. Swift even addressed the dating rumors in a Saturday Night Live monologue, singing, "If you're wondering if I might be dating the werewolf from Twilight," before mouthing "Hi Taylor!" to the camera. Lautner also joked about their relationship in his own SNL monologue, referencing Swift's encounter with Kanye West at the VMAs. Despite their public displays of affection, the couple split in December 2009, just a few months after making their relationship official.

So, what led to the breakup of Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner? According to sources at the time, it was a matter of mismatched feelings. One insider revealed to Us Weekly, "He liked her more than she liked him. He went everywhere he could to see her, but she didn't travel much to see him. They decided they were better as friends." Another source told People, "It was never a big deal to begin with. The media made way more out of it than it is. They went out on a few dates and realized this was just not going anywhere."

A close source to Lautner added, "They became good friends and then went out a few times, but he lives in L.A. and she lives in Nashville, and their busy schedules kept it from becoming more than it was." It seems that distance and conflicting schedules played a significant role in their breakup.

Interestingly, Taylor Lautner became the subject of Swift's song "Back to December" from her album Speak Now. The song includes direct references to their relationship, mentioning his "tan skin" and "sweet smile." Swift explained in an interview with USA Today, "It's almost word-for-word. It is a song and a conversation that needed to happen because I don't want to hurt people. If you unintentionally do so, you've got to make that better." She expressed comfort in singing about the details and relationships in her songs but admitted feeling shy when asked about her personal life in interviews.

In a Facebook live session with her Scream Queens co-star Lea Michele, Swift asked Lautner, "Didn't she write a song about you?" Lautner responded, "That's what she does. She writes songs." Swift then mentioned a sweater and a hat, referencing the song "Back to December," to which Lautner confirmed.

Despite their breakup, Swift and Lautner have maintained a friendly relationship. Swift has referred to Lautner as "one of my best friends" and expressed gratitude for their closeness. Lautner also spoke positively about Swift's re-release of Speak Now, stating, "I think it's a great album. Yeah, I feel safe." He also mentioned John Mayer, who is rumored to be the subject of Swift's song "Dear John."

In a podcast episode hosted by his wife, Lautner reminisced about the viral moment at the VMAs when Kanye West interrupted Swift's acceptance speech. He initially thought it was a rehearsed skit, but when he saw Swift's reaction, he realized it was not a good situation. Lautner's wife also praised Speak Now as one of the best albums of all time.

In the weeks leading up to the release of Speak Now (Taylor's Version), Swift urged her fans to approach the album with kindness and gentleness. She emphasized that she is releasing the album to assert her ownership of her music and not for fans to defend her against past controversies.

While Lautner seems to distance himself from the drama, Swifties are ready to confront the impact of John Mayer on their beloved singer.
