'Emmy Nominations 2023: The Last of Us and Andor Take the Lead in Sci-Fi Categories'
2023 Primetime Emmy nominations highlight strong presence of sci-fi/fantasy shows.
Television has become the go-to medium for captivating storytelling, surpassing even movies in its ability to captivate audiences. The nominations for the 2023 Primetime Emmys were recently announced, shedding light on the shows that have made a lasting impact on viewers. Interestingly, it seems that genre shows have garnered significant recognition from voters.
Sci-fi and fantasy shows have made a strong impression, with three of them, namely Andor, House of the Dragon, and The Last of Us, securing nominations for Best Drama. Surprisingly, the Star Wars spin-off, Obi-Wan Kenobi, also received a nomination for Best Limited Series. Additionally, actors Pedro Pascal, Jenna Ortega, Daniel Radcliffe, and Bella Ramsey were acknowledged for their exceptional performances in their respective shows.
The Last of Us emerged as a frontrunner with an impressive total of 24 nominations, falling just behind Succession, which received 27 nominations. Other notable genre nominations include three for Ms. Marvel, six for the final episode of Stranger Things 4, seven for Prey, eight for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and an astonishing 11 nominations for The Mandalorian. And let's not forget that Pedro Pascal also received recognition for his hosting gig on Saturday Night Live.
