Sherri Shepherd Makes a Comeback to The View as an Emotional Tribute is Given to 'Cranky and Hilarious' Bill Geddie

Former cohosts pay tribute to founding producer of 'The View'.

The View family came together on Monday to pay tribute to Bill Geddie, the founding producer of the talk show who passed away at the age of 68. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg, who joined the show in 2007 during Geddie's tenure, described him as "cranky" but fair and funny. Former cohost Sherri Shepherd, who now hosts her own talk show, became emotional as she reflected on Geddie hiring her despite her lack of experience and knowledge about politics. Shepherd credited Geddie with changing her life and recalled a moment when she made a mistake on air and wanted to apologize, but Geddie told her that the show was about giving opinions, not constant apologies. Goldberg also shared how Geddie helped her navigate public controversies on the show and encouraged her to stay true to herself. Sunny Hostin, who joined The View permanently in 2016, remembered auditioning for her seat and receiving feedback from Geddie about not actively participating during her audition. The show ended with a montage of Geddie's accomplishments and memorable moments. The View announced Geddie's death in an emotional Instagram post, describing him as a pioneer in television and a beloved member of The View family. Geddie had worked with Barbara Walters on The Barbara Walters Summer Special before co-creating The View in 1997. He remained with the show until 2014, overseeing the inclusion of notable cohosts such as Rosie O'Donnell, Star Jones, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The View airs on ABC weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/PT.
