Vallow Daybell also faces conspiracy charges in Arizona.
In a continuing saga of disturbing criminal proceedings, Lori Vallow Daybell, an Idaho mother, still faces serious charges in Arizona, while her husband is being charged with murder in Idaho. The case revolves around the gruesome killing of her two youngest children and her husband's former wife. Vallow Daybell received a life sentence without the possibility of parole, the maximum punishment, more than three years after the bodies of her son and daughter were discovered in her husband's backyard.
She was found guilty in May of first-degree murder charges, as well as conspiracy to commit murder of her children and her husband's former wife. Additionally, she was charged with grand theft for allegedly continuing to receive Social Security benefits for her deceased children. Meanwhile, Chad Daybell, her fifth husband, is facing charges of conspiracy to murder and first-degree murder in relation to the deaths of his step-children and former wife, who died under suspicious circumstances.
The two children went missing in 2019 and were found dead on Daybell's property in 2020. Prosecutors argue that the couple held cult-like religious beliefs and planned the killings to obtain Social Security and insurance money. Vallow Daybell was arrested in Hawaii in February 2020, while Daybell was arrested in June of the same year.
In addition to the charges in Idaho, Daybell is also facing counts of insurance fraud and grand theft. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and is scheduled to stand trial in April, with the possibility of facing the death penalty if convicted. Vallow Daybell also faces conspiracy charges in Arizona.
An Arizona grand jury indicted Vallow Daybell on charges of conspiring to murder her fourth husband, who was fatally shot by her brother in 2019. Prior to his death, he had filed for divorce, claiming that Vallow Daybell believed she was a god and had threatened to kill him. Her brother, Alexander Cox, claimed self-defense in the shooting but passed away that same year without facing charges.
Furthermore, Vallow Daybell was indicted in 2022 on charges of conspiring to murder her niece's ex-husband, who survived a shooting in 2019 that was allegedly connected to Vallow Daybell and her brother. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office has requested her extradition to Arizona for prosecution, but the timeline for this process remains uncertain.
As the case unfolds, the public awaits further updates and the resolution of these disturbing criminal charges.
