During a game of truth or dare, Nick reveals that he gave Charlie a hickey and announces that they are dating. This impulsive act of protection becomes the catalyst for Nick's coming out journey.

Nick is well aware of how Ben mistreated Charlie during their secret relationship. Ben distanced himself from Charlie in front of others, leaving Charlie feeling alone and helpless. Nick is determined not to repeat the same mistake and refuses to put Charlie in a vulnerable position.
