Trump Accuses Fani Willis of Having Romantic Relationship with YSL Leader
Days before a potential indictment, Trump falsely accused Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis of having a relationship with a gang member.
Days before potentially facing an indictment in Fulton County, Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, making a slanderous accusation. Speaking in Windham, New Hampshire, Trump labeled Willis as "racist" and alleged that she had a relationship with a member of YSL, an organization led by Young Thug currently facing RICO charges.
Trump's claim is entirely false and seems to have originated from an article where a YSL member, Mondo, mentioned being a former client of Willis when she worked as a defense attorney in 2019. Mondo discussed having conversations with Willis akin to a familial bond but never mentioned any romantic involvement.
However, Trump's false accusation didn't stop at his speech in New Hampshire. An advertisement, paid for by Trump's campaign for $79,000, is currently airing in Atlanta, perpetuating the falsehood.
In an email obtained by AJC, Willis instructed her team not to engage with the false accusations in the media or on social platforms. She emphasized the importance of refraining from expressing personal feelings towards those investigated or prosecuted.
In the coming days, Willis may present her case against Trump to a grand jury and potentially issue indictments for his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 Election.
Trump's recorded conversations with former Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Gov. Brian Kemp have been brought into question. On separate occasions, Trump implored Raffensperger to help him secure over 11,000 votes, the margin by which he trailed Joe Biden in Georgia. During a call on January 2, 2021, Trump stated, "All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state."
Willis is currently investigating potential charges of criminal solicitation to commit election fraud, making false statements to state and local officials, involvement in violence or threats related to election administration, and racketeering.
If Willis decides to charge Trump with RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations), he could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
It is worth noting that even if indicted or convicted, Trump could still run for and potentially win the presidency in 2024. In addition to the ongoing DOJ indictment, he currently faces 34 felony charges in New York for falsifying business records and 37 felony charges in federal court in Florida for hoarding classified U.S. documents.
