Olivia Rodrigo's new music video "Bad Idea Right?" explores reconciling with an ex-boyfriend, showcasing her growth as an artist.

Olivia Rodrigo's latest music video for her song "Bad Idea Right?" has been capturing the attention of many, and it's not just because of its intriguing lyrics. The track, released on August 11th, delves into Rodrigo's contemplation of reconnecting with an ex-boyfriend.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Rodrigo revealed that "Bad Idea Right?" initially started as a joke song about hooking up with an ex, but as they continued working on it, they realized they had stumbled upon something special. She shared, "We were throwing the weirdest things at the wall -- in one of the choruses, there's a part that sounds like an instrument in the background, but it's actually me gradually screaming louder and louder."

This song is the second release from Rodrigo's upcoming album, Guts, which follows more than two years after the viral success of her debut single, "Driver's License," in January 2021. Four months later, her debut album, Sour, was met with widespread acclaim, featuring hit tracks like "Good 4 U" and "Deja Vu."

Reflecting on her musical journey since the success of Sour, Rodrigo shared in a press release, "For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life. I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 -- it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that's all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully, the album reflects that."

In a newsletter to her fans, Rodrigo further explained the inspiration behind Guts, stating that she created most of the album during her 19th year, which was filled with confusion, mistakes, awkwardness, and good old-fashioned teen angst. She worked on it with her friend Dan, splitting her time between New York and L.A. Rodrigo expressed her immense pride in the album and her excitement for this new chapter in her life, eagerly anticipating its release on September 8th.

Overall, Olivia Rodrigo's music video for "Bad Idea Right?" showcases her growth as an artist and her willingness to explore different sounds and emotions. With her upcoming album, Guts, she continues to captivate listeners with her relatable and honest approach to music. Fans can look forward to experiencing Rodrigo's evolution firsthand when the album drops in September.
