Cecily Aguilar Sentenced for Aiding Boyfriend Aaron Robinson in Vanessa Guillen Murder Case

Cecily Aguilar sentenced to 30 years for helping soldier boyfriend murder Vanessa Guillen; Fort Hood scandal exposed.

Cecily Aguilar, a former resident of Killeen, Texas, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for her involvement in the murder of Army Spc. Vanessa Guillen. Aguilar pleaded guilty in November 2022 to one count of accessory to murder after the fact and three counts of making false statements.

The tragic incident took place at Fort Cavazos, formerly known as Fort Hood, where Guillen, a 20-year-old Private, was brutally beaten to death with a hammer in the base's armory by her boyfriend, Spc. Aaron Robinson. Aguilar, who was dating Robinson at the time, assisted him in disposing of Guillen's body.

Guillen was last seen on April 22, 2020, as she headed to the armory. Her disappearance triggered a widespread search, which ultimately led to the discovery of her remains near the Leon River in Bell County, Texas, on June 30, 2020.

Robinson, upon the discovery of Guillen's remains, fled his Fort Hood barracks and later took his own life with a firearm as law enforcement closed in on him in Killeen.

Aguilar cooperated with the authorities and revealed that Robinson had killed Guillen. She admitted to helping him dismember the body using a hatchet and machete. Additionally, Aguilar tampered with and destroyed information in Robinson's Google account, and she lied to federal investigators on four separate occasions.

The court handed down the maximum sentence to Aguilar, and U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza expressed hope that this decision would bring some relief and justice to the Guillen family, who have endured immense pain throughout this ordeal. Esparza described Aguilar's actions as indefensible and emphasized that her own choices led to the 30-year penalty.

Esparza expressed gratitude to the law enforcement agencies involved in the case, acknowledging their tireless dedication in bringing Aguilar to justice.

Following Guillen's murder, she was posthumously promoted to Army Specialist. Her tragic death also sparked an investigation into the practices at Fort Hood, which uncovered numerous cases of sexual harassment and assault within the base. As a result, 14 high-ranking officers were either suspended or dismissed from their positions.
